表示“祝賀”，通常用于 congratulate sb on [upon] sth, 其意為“因?yàn)槟呈露ＹR某人”(注意用介詞on/upon)。如：

I congratulate you on your success. 我祝賀你的成功。

He congratulated us on getting married. 他祝賀我們結(jié)婚大喜。

They congratulated her on her election. 他們祝賀她當(dāng)選。

I congratulated Maria on passing the exam. 瑪麗亞考試通過(guò)了我向她祝賀。

I had hoped to send him a telegram to congratulate him on his marriage but I didn’t manage it. 我本想在他結(jié)婚的時(shí)候給他打個(gè)電報(bào)表示祝賀，但是我沒(méi)有辦到。

注：在美國(guó)英語(yǔ)中有時(shí)也用for：

He congratulated the team on / for having won all their games. 運(yùn)動(dòng)隊(duì)在所有參賽項(xiàng)目上獲勝，他向全隊(duì)表示祝賀。

有時(shí)接反身代詞作賓語(yǔ)。如：

You can congratulate yourself on having done a good job. 你的工作干得出色，你應(yīng)該感到自豪。

注意，英語(yǔ)一般不說(shuō)：I congrtulate your success.
